Dear Maine Media Family,
IMAGINE: All of us from around the globe coming together again on campus, to share images and films, read aloud, break bread together and celebrate common interests in visual art and storytelling. It is a welcome picture! I’m eager to make that picture again, a convening like no other.
Last year, we cautiously opened campus with limited programs and an intentionally small group of students while strengthening our offerings and cementing our online programs. It was a transformative time. Maine Media has grown exponentially in a tumultuous moment. Online workshops have doubled our student body. Alumni lectures reach thousands more. The MFA program is thriving, as are our film intensives and certificate programs. New partnerships are increasing our reach and expanding our vision. The community is growing!
This peculiar and extraordinary place – where we convene to make pictures, to write stories, to bind books and roll film – is one where Maine Media provokes inspiring, transformational opportunities for change in everyone.
I have been serving as president here for two years. In that time, I have yet to fully witness the “great happening” that is Maine Media in the summer. But this June, that PROMISES to change. As workshops begin on June 20th, we will welcome all of you back to campus, photographers and filmmakers, poets and writers, book artists and creative characters alike!
The conversations happening on the grounds here and online, through the exchange of images and ideas among our students and faculty, and by the contributions this community is making to our visual and literary landscape, fuel our conviction that art and storytelling expand human understanding in the world. From our modest corner in Rockport, Maine, we are shaping big opportunities in the field.
