Maine Media has a number of Calls for Entry throughout the year. We proudly administer the Arnold Newman Prize for New Directions in Photographic Portraiture, a $20,000 unrestricted prize generously funded by the Arnold & Augusta Newman Foundation. We also host a variety of contests specifically for students of Maine Media each summer. galleries usually accept exhibit proposals in November of each year.
YO Show Call for Entry
Deadline to Apply: April 30
The YO Show is an exhibit of work by alumni of Maine Media's Young Artist Program who are 18 y/o or younger at the time of entry. The show will be juried by Brenton Hamilton and will be on view from mid-June to mid-July at the Maine Media Gallery in Rockport, ME.
Book Artist in Residence
Deadline to Apply: May 15
This month long residency in October is designed to support a practicing book artist in the completion of any project that combines word and image in an innovative book form. The resident has unlimited access to our dedicated book arts studio and receives a weekly stipend of $350, materials support of up to $500, a travel stipend, meals on campus, and housing overlooking Rockport Harbor.
The Arnold Newman Prize
The Arnold Newman Prize for New Directions in Photographic Portraiture recognizes excellence in a new generation of photographers by awarding $20,000 to a photographer whose work demonstrates a compelling new vision in the genre of portraiture. Established in 2009 by the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation, the prize is generously funded by the Foundation and proudly administered by Maine Media Workshops + College.
Zeiss Precision Image Competition
PIC is an opportunity for all MMW students to experience the unparalleled image quality of Zeiss lenses while challenging themselves to create new still and moving pictures for a dynamic competition. Zeiss provides a wide selection of lenses for still and cinema cameras for students to “test-drive” while on campus. The grand prize winner in each category will receive a selection of premier Zeiss SLR lenses valued at ~$8,200 and a MMW tuition scholarship for one Workshop.
