There are no available registration dates at this time.

This class will be held in a live, online format using the Zoom Platform
Class will meet Mon/Wed/Fri 10:30am-1:30pm ET
(Individual writing consultations with instructor will also be scheduled as part of the course.)

In recent years, the world of animation has expanded far beyond the Saturday morning cartoons – and even beyond Disney/Pixar features that have delighted movie-goers for generations. Network and premium channels (Netflix, Prime, Hulu, Fox etc.) are also “looking” for projects in classic animation of varying lengths –  as well as for ideas that flirt with the cutting edge.

This Writing for Animation class will examine the different outlets and how stories can be adapted and energized for animation and get you, the writer, creating scripts for animation projects. Guest speakers, who have had great success in this world, will also “visit” the class via Zoom and share their insight.

Bring in your ideas or create a few from the early exercises in class. Ideas will become full-fledged stories that connect emotionally as well as surprise and engage the audience. Each student will create an outline for a story or series and execute script pages that bring out fabulous characters and situations that could be “seen” on the big or little screen.

Instructor Jule Selbo, who has written animated features, animated series and DVD/streaming projects for the major studios and networks, will help delineate the writing structures – and expectations in the various animation outlets – and get you writing. Jule has years of professional experience – as well as years of consulting with professional and fledgling screenwriters to make their work shine. Writing for animation is fun, exciting – and a freeing experience for all those interested in screenwriting.
