This intensive takes you deep into the aesthetics, tools, and workflow of editing and post production. You’ll explore and practice the essentials of the full process, equipping you to cut and finish projects of any size.

Guided by experienced instructors and accomplished professionals, you’ll learn the dynamics of workflow, non-linear editing, motion graphics and color grading, allowing you to become fluent in key industry standard software. Then you’ll explore the art of editing with an Emmy-winning editor whose work has been seen on HBO, Netflix, Showtime, PBS, Hulu, and many other platforms. Finally, you’ll learn the art and craft of sound design and audio post production with an award-winning audio engineer.

The 5-week Editing & Post Intensive Workshops (Jul 29-Aug 30, 2024)

Week 1: Adobe Premiere

Understanding the editor’s job of combining images, words, and audio into a cohesive and engaging body of work is essential for all filmmakers. Adobe’s Premiere has become the preferred software choice for many professional editors. This course is designed for students with little to no editing experience. We will start with the basics and build from there. It is also good for self-taught editors who would like to break their bad habits.

Week 2: Color Grading with DaVinci Resolve

Learn the techniques, methodologies and aesthetics of color correction and grading using DaVinci Resolve in this comprehensive introductory workshop. The class covers the digital color grading workflow from initial resolve setup and color theory to node structures and delivery. Students learn the tools and nuances of color matching and how to take projects to the next level with graded looks.

Week 3: Adobe After Effects

Guided by an accomplished Adobe After Effects instructor, gain a solid understanding of the industry-standard software for motion graphics in this dynamic and hands-on workshop. Students create dynamic content for logo treatments and commercials and understand visual effects features such as keying and compositing for film, video, or multimedia. Through daily hands-on assignments, the class explores the tools of After Effects including layers, blending modes, masks, and alpha channels.

Week 4: The Art of Editing

This workshop is for editors, directors, and other filmmakers who want to go beyond software and workflow and discuss the nuances of what makes a cut motivated and compelling. Students explore how pacing, shot selection, rhythm, and juxtaposition can be used to create emotional impact and advance a story. The workshop examines how good editors approach their footage, develop a process, and ultimately create a unique stylistic identity.

Week 5: Sound Design & Audio Post Production

Explore the creative and technical aspects of taking your audio to a new and powerful level in post production. For editors and filmmakers who want to examine the creative and practical aspects of achieving effective audio in post production, this workshop offers foundation-level training. We will explore how to make audio land with impact.
