Greetings,

I am very excited as we launch the 50th year of programs at Maine Media!
All of us have weathered a few turbulent years as a community, and we continue to adapt
to the ‘new normal.’ Nonetheless, in our 50th year we are emerging as a much healthier
organization, richer in talent, creativity and ambition. I want to tell you how grateful I am
for your collective commitment to Maine Media and achieving this profound vision we share
– deepening human understanding through visual arts and storytelling.

This year we’re taking more steps to move forward— developing vibrant programs and
boundless student engagements, completing our application for accreditation with the
New England Commission of Higher Education, developing a major exhibition with the
Portland Museum of Art, and releasing a landmark publication celebrating the magic
found here at Maine Media.

In addition, we have brought several new voices onto our Board of Directors, in an effort to
broaden the expertise in our leadership. New Board Members include Van Pulley, a skilled
photographer with deep experience in economics and development through his work with
the World Bank, Robert ToTeras, an award winning LA based music composer working in
Film and Television, Joseph Tovares, a nationally recognized media executive and producer
with experience on both the business and editorial sides of commercial and public media,
and Mark McGowan, an accomplished and passionate technologist with a background in
banking and finance at TD Bank and Epoch Investment Partners. I am grateful to all of the
Board members for contributing their time and expertise to thoughtfully steward Maine Media.

None of this is possible without the strong and devoted leadership of our management. Led
by President Michael Mansfield, Maine Media successfully weathered the uncertainty of the
pandemic while continuing to deliver on its promise and to innovate with new programs.
Our Provost, Elizabeth Greenberg, has been tireless in growing programs and delivery
platforms while shepherding through our critical accreditation process. I am very grateful to
them for their continued leadership.

And I want to thank all of you, Maine Media students, faculty, staff and donors, for your support
and engagement with us throughout the 50 years, and especially now. I look forward to seeing
many of you on campus, or online, and wish you great success, creativity and joy for 2023.
