With this Introduction to Encaustic, artist Diane Bowie Zaitlin will introduce you to her contemporary approach to encaustic painting.  Painting with molten beeswax and damar resin adds depth, texture, and intrigue to your photographs and artwork. Wax on paper intensifies color, creates transparency, and reflects light for a uniquely luminous surface.

We will work on wooden panels with layers of collage elements as well as directly on photographs or on paper in folded book formats. The workshop offers a survey of mixed media and transfer techniques that could apply to photography, book arts, and fine art. You will learn how to incorporate your own photographs, ephemera and numerous mixed media materials to invigorate you imagery

Note: Students should bring any specialty collage items such as ephemera, photographs or natural elements to incorporate. Watercolor or Bristol papers are good to have as extra and to practice with.
