Learn to take advantage of the night to create photographs 24 hours a day.

This workshop is for anyone who has never photographed in darkness or is excited to experiment with new lighting techniques. Over the course of several days, students will learn fundamental skills in both night photography as well as light painting. Light painting is the technique of combining long exposure photographs with continuously moving lights in a creative way, allowing for incredible photographic possibilities in partial to complete darkness. When the lights go out and the world becomes a dimmer version of itself, light painters get to work!

While most photographers put their cameras away when the sun sets, students in this workshop will walk away with practical skills they can apply immediately and learn how to take advantage of the night to create photographs 24 hours a day. With these techniques, students will have the ability to transform any dark location: whether a room in one’s own home or the most remote wilderness imaginable into a location full of new photographic opportunities.

Instructor: Matt Stock

Matt Stock developed his signature style of Painting with Light in the Dark® photographs after building his career fusing art and science. To create his photographs, Matt and his team meticulously illuminate a scene on location using light sources ranging from the Milky Way and full moon to specialized lighting tools through the course of many hours and hundreds of individual exposures. He then digitally weaves elements of each of these exposures into a single luminous composition in post-production using Adobe Photoshop. Everything seen in his work was captured in real-time and on location.
