Raised in Maine, Zach studied Philosophy, Writing, and Cinematography at the University of Maine at Orono, The University of East Anglia in the UK, and Maine Media Workshops. Before shooting, he learned the art and craft of lighting as an electrician and gaffer in New York’s independent feature and commercial world.

As a Cinematographer, Zach has spent years working in every corner of the globe. Over 10,000 hours of international camera work have given him a rare perspective on the world and its peoples, cultures, and landscapes. Stylistically, he works to bring cinema into the real world, and the real world into cinema.

Zach has won 3 Primetime Emmy Awards, and earned 5 Nominations for Non-Fiction Cinematography.  His series, Parts Unknown, has won the Peabody Award.

Best known for his work on Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown, and No Reservations, Zach has shot over a hundred episodes of international television. His unique eye and experience is consistently sought by Television, Doc, Commercial, and Feature Film clients.
