Steve Nelson, CAS is a production sound mixer based in Hollywood CA with more than seventy films to his credit over more than three decades in the industry. He earned his MFA from UCLA in Motion Picture and Television Production where he was fortunate to study with the ground breaking post-production mixer Richard Portman, and, as his direct mentor, the international documentarian Jorge Preloran.
The late great David Ronne took Steve under his wing as he worked his way through the low budget world of independent filmmaking; highlights of which include Repo Man, Night of the Comet, The Waterdance, Mortal Kombat and American History X. Subsequent larger budget entertainments include Live Free or Die Hard, Fast and Furious, S.W.A.T., Neighbors, Dr. Strange and many more. There has been some television along the way, most recently the naval-themed action drama, The Last Ship on TNT, about to set sail on season four. Steve has been fortunate to work with some of the most talented people in the world and is excited to be sharing some of what he’s learned over the years with students at Maine Media Workshops.
