Margaret A. (Meg) Weston earned an MFA degree in Creative Writing at Lesley University in 2008, and has completed training in the Amherst Writers and Artists method for facilitating writing groups. Her memoir, The Volcano Tourist, follows her geologic journey as she pursues a passion that’s been with her since childhood. Her passion for volcanoes and geological hot spots around the world, as well as themes of memory, family, and self-discovery are the subjects of her writing. As a member of the core faculty of the Maine Media she mentors students in their creative writing projects.

Meg’s passion for photographing volcanoes has been showcased in the solo exhibits “Lava Flows” at the Lyceum Gallery in 2012, and “Lavascapes” in 2008, group shows “Atelier 2007” and the “Next Step” exhibit of alumni of JP Caponigro, as well as on her website, www.volcanoes.com.  She was selected to present poetry and images at the 2012 Belfast Poetry Festival and delivered a talk on “Igneous Inspirations” for the SAGE lecture series at USM’s Osher Lifelong Learning Center in the fall of 2015.

Meg recently retired from the position of President of Maine Media Workshops + College, and has also previously led companies in the consumer photographic and media industry.  She was president of the Portland Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram, and president of Konica Corporation’s U.S. photofinishing operations. For ten years, she served on the Board of Trustees for the University of Maine System, and as chair for the final two years of her term.
