Lesléa Newman is the author of 80 books for readers of all ages. Her picture books include, “Heather Has Two Mommies,” “Sparkle Boy,” “The Boy Who Cried Fabulous,” “Alicia and the Hurricane/Alicia y el huracán,” “Gittel’s Journey: An Ellis Island Story,” “Here Is The World: A Year of Jewish Holidays,” “As Babies Dream,” and “Ketzel, the Cat Who Composed.” Her literary awards include two National Jewish Book Awards, two American Library Association Stonewall Honors, the Association of Jewish Libraries Sydney Taylor Gold Medal, Silver Medal, and Body-of-Work Award, and the Massachusetts Book Award. She is a past National Endowment of the Arts Poetry Fellow and from 2008 – 2010 she served as the poet laureate of Northampton, MA. Currently she teaches at Spalding University’s Naslund-Mann School of Writing.
