Jan Owen is a calligrapher presently focusing on books of handmade papers, hanging scrolls and broadsides. Jan has taught at Haystack, University of Southern Maine Summer Book Arts program, Arrowmont, the Sitka Center, and Maine Media Workshops. Her work has been shown internationally and is included in the Library of Congress, National Museum of Women in the Arts, plus many library special collections and private collections. Her book, Requiem, was a finalist for the Minnesota Center for Book Arts Books that Matter award in 2009. She has exhibited at the Codex book fair in California. She is currently on exhibit at the San Francisco Center for the Book Reclamation show and at form & concept gallery in Santa Fe. She was awarded two Percent for Art commissions in Maine courthouses. In 2019, Jan was awarded a Maine Artist Fellowship in Craft. She is currently working towards an exhibit of 5 book artists at the Maine Jewish Museum entitled Stories, which will be exhibited in March, 2022, Portland, Maine.
