Jacob Hessler’s photography has been described as introspective, nostalgic, meditative and spiritual. Focusing primarily on large-scale landscapes, his keen eye and use of scale connects viewers with the vastness of the human experience. His images feel expansive and serene, with a whispering tension between the familiar and the deeply mysterious. Hessler’s signature style has developed a strong following of collectors and interior designers around the world.

In 2007, he graduated at the top of his class from the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. After Brooks, Hessler assisted celebrity photographer Jill Greenberg on numerous high-profile projects, including work for New York Magazine, Time and Wired. Following Greenberg Studios, Hessler moved to New York City to pursue a master’s degree in graphic design at Parsons, The New School for Design. After Parsons, he worked in New York as a freelance commercial photographer, art director and graphic designer.

In 2011, Hessler left New York and moved back to his childhood hometown in Mid Coast, Maine to pursue fine-art landscape photography. For the last five years he has been teaching photography workshops at institutions around the country and running Hessler Creative, a branding and photography agency, with his wife Alissa Hessler.

Hessler recently released the book Boundaries, a fine-press artist book collaboration with the inaugural poet Richard Blanco, pairing Blanco’s poetry with Jacob’s photography. The artist book is published by Two Ponds Press.
