NOTE: This class will be held in a live, online format using the Zoom Platform
Class meets Saturday & Sunday, Jul 31st & Aug 1st from 1:00 – 6:00 PM EDT

This workshop is for young, aspiring cinematographers and filmmakers who want to delve into a wide range of lighting techniques and practices used in professional filmmaking. The class covers the importance of light in the storytelling process, and the techniques used to create dramatic and beautiful visuals using lighting.

Students will learn how to scout a location and plan lighting requirements for a shoot. We will discuss a series of lighting scenarios with goals to achieve specific visual looks. We will discuss a range of lighting technology used for filmmaking, including LED, HMI, tungsten, fluorescent and more, and we touch upon the essential “grip” equipment, which is used to shape and control the light.

As this class is being held remotely, students should have their own camera at home (This can be anything from a DSLR to a Camcorder to even an iPhone).

If you own your own lighting equipment you are highly encouraged to use this class as a way to improve your techniques with it, however it is not required that students own any film lights. Learning how to use natural light and available/practical light in your filmmaking is an essential skill in cinematography!
