Presentation is key! Create custom boxes to house your photos, books, drawings, or prints.
Date: Jul 29 – Aug 4, 2018
Levels: Beginner, Intermediate
Workshop Fee: $995
Class Size: 8
This week will be filled with tips and techniques to make the outermost structures that house your creative works. You will be introduced to various styles of portfolio boxes, allowing you to choose the one that showcases and protects your work best. Each student will leave the class with at least three completed boxes and will become proficient in crafting, cutting, constructing and covering custom portfolio boxes in the process. We will learn structures like the clamshell, telescope, drop spine and weighted-lid boxes. One day will be devoted to creating custom paper coverings. The class will also discuss archival materials and how to ensure the safety and longevity of stored work.
Students are encouraged to bring samples of their 2-dimensional work (photographs, drawings, prints, etc) and/or 3-dimensional work (books, trinkets, etc) in order to properly size their unique portfolios. Feel free to bring a variety of sizes and media! Students will have access to a broad range of book cloth available in the Book Arts studio at Maine Media, but you are also welcome to bring your own. All levels of skills are welcome.
