Welcome aboard Windjammer Angelique, a 130’ traditionally rigged ketch, for a unique photo workshop with exceptionally stunning photo ops. This is an all levels workshop – Sunday through Saturday with accommodations and meals aboard Angelique.
Join professional photographer Neal Parent in his 39th photo workshop aboard windjammers! He will teach you how to expose correctly on the water with constantly changing light conditions and with low light in a night photography lesson. Angelique sails to new ports along the coast of Maine each day and anchors in a snug harbor each night. Student go ashore each day and explore different islands and their inhabitants, capturing the feeling of coastal Maine and it’s people, and receive daily critiques with a slide show of all work at the end of the week.
Accommodations aboard Angelique are double occupancy cabins and one single occupancy cabin. Most cabins have bunk beds, but a few have a double bed. Cabin requests will be honored on a first come first serve basis. Solo participants may be bunked with other singles of the same gender. Every cabin has a private sink with cold running water, mirror, reading lights, and standing headroom. Cabin sizes are adequate and cozy. Luggage can be stored under bunks or at the foot of bunks. We recommend soft-sided bags for ease of storage. All linens, towels, blankets, and soaps are provided. Angelique has three “heads” (bathrooms) that are shared. All heads are located below decks for easy access from the cabins. Two of the heads have hot water showers.
Angelique’s cabins have a USB charging port for your cell phones and tablets and there is a charging station to charge small electronics like camera batteries and laptops with your regular household outlet charger. There are no AC powered outlets in the cabins and we do not have enough power to run hairdryers, electric shavers, curling irons, or fans. We can accommodate CPAP machines, however.
Meals aboard Angelique are homemade from fresh ingredients, plentiful, and served family style. We can accommodate special diets such as vegetarian, gluten-free, lactose intolerant, and other food allergies when we let our chef know ahead of time. Please mention your dietary need at the time of booking.
Board the vessel in Camden on Sunday Julne 17 anytime after 5pm. Dinner is not served the first night, but you’ll be dockside this first night and able to walk to several nice restaurants in Camden.
Deposit: $300 (at the time of registration this deposit, in addition to the $55 registration fee will be taken by Maine Media Workshops.) All future communication and financial transactions will be handled directly by Windjammer Angelique.

Instructor: Neal Parent
A professional photographer for over thirty-five years, Neal Parent started his career as a photojournalist for a small mid-coast Maine newspaper. Although his primary subject has been the coast of Maine - its waters, landscapes, boats and people; in recent years, his work has expanded to include Florida, Wyoming, and Montana. Most recently Neal has held workshops in Paris, Canada, the Caribbean, and in China. The workshops now include beginner’s digital photography offering instructions in how to use your digital camera’s many settings. Neal encourages students to shoot in manual mode, and how to get the most out of the image. Each student also will benefit from the daily critiques that Neal feels is so important in learning to use their cameras.
Neal still shoots with 35mm film as well. Using natural light, he works without filters and does all his own printing. Hand processing of each photograph in trays ensures complete control of each image. Three books have been published with collections of his work: My Corner of Maine, Neal Parent's Maine, published by Downcast Books, and most recently, Focused on the Coast, published by Wooden Boat Books. His photos have appeared in several magazines, including National Fisherman, Pacific Fisherman, and Downcast. In addition, his images were selected to appear in Nathalie Ward's Stillwater Bank, Adventure, by Joseph E. Garland with Captain Jim Sharp, and From Cape Cod to the Bay of Fundy, edited by Philip W. Conkling.
Destination: Rajasthan, India. This is the land of Kings, or Rajas. It is one of the world’s most photogenic settings. We are here to bring motion to our shots. See the Taj Mahal, experience the eclectic energy of Delhi, explore deserts and jungles. All this is our extraordinary backdrop as we learn to bring professional quality to our travel videos.
The geological forces that formed Lake Myvatn created a sculptural landscape that is home to hundreds of species of migrating water birds, unique geological formations and geothermal baths -- providing the perfect environment to concentrate on writing poetry or prose. We will spend each morning with carefully selected writing prompts, and in the evenings, those who wish to can share more about a project in progress with the group and get feedback.
