Let a master editor help you take your work to a new level!

Date:  Oct 14-20
Levels:  Advanced, Master
Workshop Fee:  $1250
Class Size: 10

Spend a week with a distinguished documentary editor and sharpen your view of how to shape and focus a film for maximum impact.

Learn how to sculpt defining first impressions for the characters so that an audience will be compelled to follow them and be interested in their journeys, effectively balance multiple stories, avoid narrative congestion, and build a scene so that it resonates.  Identify the core of the story and protect the through line.  You will also examine the unique demands of different documentary styles.

Screening of other films and case studies from your instructor’s career will illuminate the dynamics being explored.

Bring a work in progress or a finished film for screening and critique.  As much as getting a new understanding of how to sculpt the footage that you’ve already shot, you will also identify what footage or elements you might need to complete your film.

Participants should have experience with a non-linear editing system such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, or Avid.
