Combine text and image to create a beautiful artist’s book. In this hands-on practical workshop, you will learn how to combine text and image to create a beautiful hand-bound letterpress piece.  Every day will include discussions of your work and hands on book binding and letterpress tutorials.

Students are requested to bring the content they would like to work with, written pieces and printed photographs/original artwork. There will be time for writing and workshopping/editing your pieces during the week, but no digital printing services will be available.

This is a class for artists who are keen to learn letterpress and how to put their words and images into the book form. No prior book binding or letterpress experience is required. Experience with Adobe Indesign is helpful but not essential.

Winter/Spring lodging and meal package available for $525 per week. Includes breakfast and lunch Monday – Friday. Dinner services are not available during our Winter/Spring session. Meal plan (mandatory) without lodging is $150 per week.

Instructor: Sal Taylor Kydd

Maine-based photographic artist and writer Sal Taylor Kydd uses various photographic media in a personal narrative that explores themes around memory and belonging; combining her poetry with alternative processes of photography and object-making.

Sal’s fine art photographs have been exhibited throughout the country and internationally, including the UK, Barcelona, San Miguel De Allende, Portland, Boston and Los Angeles; and she has been featured in numerous publications, including Shots Magazine, Don’t Take Pictures, Lenscratch, Diffusion Annual and The Hand.
