It’s official! This week, September 24 – 29, 2023, has been proclaimed Maine Media Workshops + College Week by Governor Janet Mills. 

We’re honored to announce that Governor Janet Mills has declared this week Maine Media Workshops + College Week, in recognition of the organization’s lasting dedication to education and the arts in the state of Maine. In our 50th year, and following our full accreditation by the New England Commission on Higher Education in May, this Proclamation only continues to affirm the value of our mission, to provide lifelong learning opportunities for artists and creatives here in Maine and beyond.

To celebrate, we’re hosting a number of lectures and events:

TONIGHT: join us in Rockport for one more on-campus lecture with photographers Mary Virginia Swanson & Susan kae Grant, followed by a book signing and print sale.

– Wednesday afternoon, tune into our next virtual Alumni Lecture, The Creative Entrepreneur: Making it Real with celebrated film producer Alexis Alexanian

 – SOLD OUT: On Thursday, we celebrate 2023 Visionary Award honoree Cig Harvey in Rockland! Although the event is sold out, keep an eye out for the recording on our website, and see Cig’s exhibition FEAST at Dowling Walsh Gallery through Saturday.

WHEREAS, for 50 years, Maine Media Workshops + College has consistently demonstrated its dedication to education by offering a diverse range of public programs, workshops, technical courses, and degree programs that empower individuals to further their artistic ambitions and develop their skills in various media disciplines; and

WHEREAS, Maine Media Workshops + College’s commitment to education has further established the State of Maine as a primary address for artists from around the world to advance visual and literary expression through photography, film making, creative writing, and artist’s books; and

WHEREAS, Maine Media Workshops + College champions a shared conviction that visual arts and storytelling expands communication among one another and deepens human understanding in the world; and

WHEREAS, the institution’s commitment to shaping a supportive and inclusive learning environment has encouraged collaboration and networking among students, faculty, and industry professionals, resulting in a vibrant creative community that thrives on sharing knowledge and experiences; and

WHEREAS, Maine Media Workshops + College has contributed significantly to the cultural landscape of the State of Maine, and the institution’s alumni have made significant contributions that enrich the visual and media arts industries within our state and beyond; and

WHEREAS, in its 50th year, Maine Media Workshops + College has achieved and been recognized as a fully accredited institution by the New England Commission for Higher Education;

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Janet T. Mills, Governor of the State of Maine, do hereby proclaim the week of September 24th through 30th, 2023, as

in the State of Maine, and I encourage all citizens to recognize the importance of Maine Media Workshops + College in advancing artistic expression, creative innovation, and cultural enrichment to the benefit of us all.

In testimony whereof, I have caused the Great Seal of the State to be hereunto affixed GIVEN under my hand at Augusta this eighth day of September Two Thousand Twenty Three
