Summer Smash was a groovy evening of dancing, mingling and celebrating our first chance to come back together this summer as the Maine Media community. Thank you to everyone who attended the Tripod Society Cocktail Party and the Summer Smash event. A wonderful time was had by all!
The night was powered by The Soul Benders and delectable drinks were served by Nina June. Over 100 members of the community – students, staff, board members, tripod members, instructors, friends, and family – gathered together in Union Hall in downtown Rockport, a location integral to the history and heart of Maine Media.
“This is a historic spot,” said Michael Mansfield, president of Maine Media, during a thank-you toast at Summer Smash. “This is where Maine Media was founded in the basement of this building, in a garage where David Lyman wanted to build some dark rooms – and he invited everybody up. And from that we have been given this extraordinary gift of Maine Media that, in my mind, is influencing the direction of media, and influencing the course and the creative lives of so many students, workshop attendees, and certainly staff. It’s a great community to be part of. And I’m really proud to be here.”
