Payment & Policies

Payment
Payment is due 30 days prior to course start. All fees are to be paid in U.S. funds. Acceptable forms of payment include cash, checks, bank draft, company approved purchase orders, VISA, MasterCard and Discover.

Change Fee
Should you find it necessary to change your course, lodging reservation or anything that requires re-billing, there MAY be a $10 Change Fee added to your bill.

College Credit
Maine Media College is authorized to award graduate and undergraduate degrees and to provide college credit for most of the one-week workshops and Master Classes offered at The Workshops. (Check with your college to be sure they will accept this credit.) Each course in this catalogue lists the amount of undergraduate or graduate course credit available. A $35 per course processing fee is required for people wishing to receive credit . To obtain credit, you must register prior to the beginning of the class, in order for the instructor to provide a grade and prepare an evaluation.

Discount Plans
The Workshops offers a number of discount plans to help you reduce your cost when enrolling in more than one course.

  • * 10% tuition discount on your second course and all additional courses in 2009, deducted from the less expensive course(s).
  • * 10% tuition discount for each additional person attending the Workshops in 2009 from the same company or the same immediate family, deducted from the lowest tuition. Some discount restrictions apply. Discounts are non-transferable, must be used within the same year, and are not available for workshop programs and courses that offer their own discount plans. Discount plans may not be compounded. To qualify for discounts you must register for the meals and accommodations package.

Stand-by Policy
The workshops offer a 25% off stand-by rate for many of our summer workshops. To qualify for this Stand-By rate follow these rules:

  • * Select a workshop (or workshops) and go through the regular application and acceptance procedures. Fill out the application and submit the required deposit, fees and résumé or portfolio. You must qualify for the workshop for which you are applying. Mark your application “Stand-By Request”. We will tentatively book you for the class requested. If the class looks like it will fill, you will be contacted so you can make other choices. In some cases we can tell you the chances of a class being full or not with a phone call or email. Once we know the anticipated final course enrollment, you will be notified. This could be last minute, depending upon enrollment.
  • * If the course you selected is full, or nearly full, we will contact you immediately. You may decide to upgrade and pay full tuition, or switch to another course.
  • * To qualify you must register for the meals and accommodations package.
  • * Stand-by option is not available on international workshops, or residencies.
  • * Other stipulations may also apply. Information is available by calling

Withdrawal and Refund Policy
Enrollment is limited in our workshops, so once you have been accepted your participation is important to us - we are counting on you to attend. If you must withdraw from a course, we provide the following refund policy:

  • * Withdraw more than 30 days before the start of class (60 days for workshops held outside of Rockport) and we will refund all monies paid, less the $55 application fee.
  • * Withdraw one month or less before the start of class and we will refund all monies paid, less the application fee and the $300 deposit ($600 deposit for workshops held outside of Rockport).
  • * Housing on campus is at a premium here in the summer months.

Thus, we may charge a $100 cancellation fee for lodging cancellations made less than ten days before the start of a class. No cancellation fee will be charged for a change in class dates.

Course Cancellation
Occasionally, we cancel a class because of low enrollment. In this case, we will refund all monies paid, in full. We cannot be responsible for non-refundable airline tickets unused because of a course cancellation. Our limit of liability is to return all monies paid to The Workshops.

Instructor Replacement
It is the nature of the business that occasionally a listed instructor is unable to participate because of a change in his or her professional schedule. If we are forced to replace an instructor, we will do so with someone of equal or similar credentials. When time permits, we will inform all those registered.
