Student Image by: Charlotte DonaldsonExplore the bells and whistles Adobe Photoshop CS5 has to offer the photographer interested in advanced image making. This one-week course provides a solid foundation in Photoshop for digital photographic imaging and printing. Discussions cover the advantages and disadvantages of digital manipulation, including conceptual intent and technical execution Photoshop CS5 has to offer. Students learn to understand and work with curves in order to specifically adjust tonal values within an image, regulating contrast, color, and tonality. Sharpness, noise, filters, file size, and black and white imagery are all topics explored in this workshop. Using various selection tools, image layers and masks, students learn to make local image adjustments, creating an effect that parallels traditional darkroom dodging and burning.

Participants face the challenges and limitations of digital imaging both in the field and in the lab, discovering the myriad of possibilities to work through these challenges. Daily lectures, demonstrations, and lots of hands-on lab work provide students with the tools to advance their skills and take their images through to print.  Participants leave the Workshops with newfound digital knowledge and documentation of the week's intensive lab work.
