A foundation course in creative studio techniques.

© Robert MeyerWhether the subject is people or products, photographers manipulate light and create mood to define their subjects. Through daily demonstrations and shooting, this workshop provides students with a solid foundation of how light works. Experience how to capture and control both available and manufactured light while learning the fundamentals of studio strobes. This workshop is everything studio and then some. Learn to see the light!

Students review basic lighting techniques including lighting patterns, ratios, high and low key, and the qualities of umbrellas, boxes and grids. This understanding translates to better “seeing” ambient light in the real world. Participants learn to scout the light, not just the location and place your subject in the quality of light that best suits the idea of the intended photograph. This workshop allows participants to create a space for themselves to push beyond their normal way of seeing without fear of failure.
