Digital Collage

Dive into the techniques and aesthetics of digital collage using combined imagery and painting.

Susan BloomParticipants explore Photoshop's capabilities for image layering along with other software applications as the class works digitally in traditional art media, including watercolors, pastels, oils and charcoals and collage.

Students dive into the technical aspects and aesthetic concerns of the new digital media as grounds for creative, imaginative work and as a alternative printing medium. Students work with Photoshop's painting and layering tools, as Sue teaches new techniques and technical shortcuts. Advanced scanning methods are covered along with file size and resolution.

Participants also explore various digital cameras, papers and inks. The atmosphere is one of experimentation and discovery and high energy. Work is printed and critiqued daily. The class also discuss topics such as careers in digital art, marketing professional digital skills and making a living selling work.

Students should be comfortable working within Photoshop on the Macintosh platform.
