The Language of Color
The color of light describes our world in a particular visual language. Participants learn to utilize color as language in capturing the sense and feeling of place. This is a fine art photography course designed to heighten the creativity of its participants and give them a new in depth perception of color in the natural world. Field work, lectures and critique provide the way for participants to develop new bodies of work with a uniqueness of style.
Daily field trips give participants the opportunity to explore Maine’s diverse environment. Through photographing the ocean, forest, mountains, lakes, and woods the participants learn different exposure techniques to capture subtle colors in many different natural light situations. Post field trip critiques and discussions increase the understanding of the psychological impact of color and how it relates to color theory and composition. Perception, creativity and technique intertwine to build the foundation for a deeper understanding of color, one of the most expressive tools available to artists.
An advanced workshop in color photography, this class is for professionals and experienced amateurs. Participants in this workshop should have a solid knowledge of their camera equipment. Personal laptops are suggested but not required.
