Food & Beverage
A surprising amount of advertising work is done with a few lights, a small room and a lot of the advertised product. This workshop provides students with the necessary tools and techniques to create stunning food and beverage imagery.
From beverages in glass in a simple setting to main dishes and desserts with propping, students discover the intricacies of food photography. Through discussions, demonstrations, critiques, and constant photographing, participants learn to problem solve and give a visual voice to food and beverage. Working in groups and independently, students discover ways to give personality and mood to still life with styling, light, shadows, composition, color, and control. In addition to shooting and food styling, Steve also addresses issues of marketing and self-promotional pieces, creating and maintaining relationships with clients, and making a personal niche in the market.
Steve not only guides students through common techniques using studio tools, but also helps students understand the value of experimentation. Students leave this workshop with more than basic recipes for studio set-ups; they walk away with an understanding of light, reflection, subtlety and beautiful imagery.
