Explore the beauty of floral close-up photography in the field

Allen RokachPhotographing the miniature world found in close-ups of flowers is both fascinating and endlessly challenging, especially for the outdoor photographer. In this week-long workshop for intermediate and advanced students of photography, Allen Rokach shares his expertise of creating floral close-ups in the field.

Through a series of classroom presentations, critiques, discussions and on-location outings in Maine, students discover the many approaches to shooting floral close-ups and meeting the challenges they present. Participants pre-visualize images and use conventional and digital camera settings to achieve the results desired. Topics include using the appropriate macro lens, extension tub or close up filter, as well as how to control sharpness in the subject and background for a variety of aesthetic effects.

In addition to the technical aspects of image making, personal vision and creative growth are constants throughout the week.  Rokach emphasizes the importance of color and composition and explores creative solutions to difficult working environments. From analyzing natural light to using small electronic flash units creatively, participants learn to make the most of any weather or lighting situation.

A laptop with editing software is strongly suggested for this workshop.
