Intermediate Multimedia

Find, shoot and produce more advanced multimedia stories using photography, audio and video interviews

Nacho CorbellaBuilding on the Introduction to Multimedia workshop, Intermediate Multimedia explores the most commonly used tools of multimedia storytelling in greater depth. Students find, shoot and produce multimedia stories using still and video cameras during a week that includes intense daily critiques, lectures and demonstrations.

Students learn the basics of shooting video interviews and setting up audio for those interviews. Principals of integrating stills and audio with video are also discussed in detail. Additionally, students are introduced to Apple’s Final Cut Pro as a means to edit and produce the stories they shoot.

Students should have a strong grasp of photography before attending this class. Students are also encouraged to have a basic understanding of video principles, audio content gathering and Final Cut Pro workflow.

Coburn Dukehart

Coburn Dukehart joined NPR.org in June 2007 as the Picture and Multimedia Editor. A regular day could have her shooting pictures, doing photo research, editing multimedia, planning for long-term projects, making assignments, writing for the blog, training reporters, or working with the legal, design, and news departments. She loves Final Cut Pro. She loves good portraiture. And she loves well written captions and organized spreadsheets. Most of all, she encourages high standards of visual literacy at an organization best known for it’s audio storytelling.

Prior to joining NPR, she worked as a photo editor and multimedia producer at usatoday.com. She has also worked as a photo editor at washingtonpost.com, and interned in the White House photo office. She has a master's degree in photojournalism from the University of Missouri, and is the recipient of editing awards from WHNPA, NPPA, and POYi.

Coburn has coached at various multimedia workshops, including Eddie Adams, the NPPA Flying Short Course, the NPPA Immersion workshop, and the Syracuse Fall Workshop. In her spare time, Coburn likes make funny faces at her daughter and husband, play the drums, do yoga, swim and search for new adventures.
