This workshop focuses on the techniques and traditions of feature film production, providing an overview of the essential roles and responsibilities of the movie producer, from concept to script, through the financing and physical production of a modern picture, to its distribution and exhibition. The dynamics of creative and entrepreneurial producing in all media are outlined in the context of the motion picture profession, so as to familiarize students with the crucial tools the professional producer uses in all the fields of motion picture, video, television, and internet moving image business. The course also covers information every creative producer needs to know on the fundamental topics of the major studios, independent production companies, agent and agencies, legal issues, literary options, film finance, film marketing and distribution, and collaboration with all creative members of the producing team. Students come away with all the necessary tools to recognize and develop appropriate and compelling material, and are prepared to work with directors, writers, cinematographers, editors, production designers, and all members of the crew.
