The explosion of digital video in the past decade has revolutionized the way film, television and video production is captured and edited. Compact media like P2 cards, compact flash cards, SXS cards, SDHC and other developing formats have allowed filmmakers to capture and store massive amounts of high quality data at a fraction of the cost of the more traditional methods like film and tape stock. 

Increasingly fast download speeds and methods have streamlined the process of transferring digital media directly into a non-linear editing systems such as Final Cut Pro. This technology has not only changed the way the media is now captured, but also has created new factors in the overall production process that must be addressed, considered and planned prior to stepping onto a set.

This class gives students an overview of today’s digital production workflow from pre-production planning, to production, through to post-production and distribution. Through classroom lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on content gathering, students gain a solid understanding of high definition file-based digital workflow from start to finish. Additionally, discussions cover current and evolving digital camera technology, codecs, compression, data wrangling, storage and backup storage solutions, post-production workflow, and more.
