Basic Shooting and Lighting Techniques for HD

Experience Sony's XDCAM camcorders such as the PMW-F3 and PMW-200 cameras while working with all aspects of filmmaking

Today’s affordable high-definition cameras make it possible for almost anyone, with the proper training, to create high-end videos and television programming with unprecedented production values.  This course is a comprehensive, hands-on workshop that is designed to help anyone who wants to get a jump-start on producing broadcast-quality productions using today’s state-of-the-art professional camcorders and lighting equipment. Students receive both classroom instruction and hands-on, real-world training in a variety of field production environments.

Under the guidance of respected freelance cameraman Doug Jensen, who has over 33 years of experience in the industry, students learn about camera set-up, menu options, picture profiles, video format options, exposure, white balance, focusing, cinematic depth of field, sound recording, time-lapse, slow-motion, camera movement, lens selection, composition, clip naming, and much more. In addition, this course also includes an introduction to 5-point interview lighting techniques using both LED and tungsten lighting equipment.

While this class is not specific to any one model of camera, it does provide students the opportunity to work hands-on with the latest Sony XDCAM camcorders such as the PMW-200, PMW-F3, and others.  All necessary equipment is provided, but students are permitted to bring their own professional HD video camcorder and tripod if they choose to do so.  Students from all skill levels are welcome.

And with over 33 years of professional experience, Doug brings a wide-ranging, real-world perspective into the classroom.

According to Doug, “Every aspect of digital production is changing at an extremely fast pace, and workshops like mine are invaluable for helping professionals stay competitive. Regardless of a student’s level of experience coming in, my goal is to have everyone leave my workshops well-equipped to use the newest technology in the most effective and efficient ways.  I fully understand that someone who has chosen to take one of my courses is making a substantial investment in time and money to attend, and I want to make sure they get a tangible return on that investment the moment they get back home.”

Doug’s credits and clients include NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, CNN, PBS, BBC, NHK, EBU, TNT, A&E, E!, ESPN, HGTV, Discovery Channel, Food Network, Travel Channel, History Channel, Sundance Channel, Warner Bros., Weather Channel, Golf Channel, NASCAR Images, MLB Productions, NBA Entertainment, Holland America, USDA Forest Service, Microsoft, Hasbro, Disney, Textron, Johnson & Johnson, Novartis, Pfizer, Bayer, Amgen, Pampered Chef, Wendy's, UPS, Ocean Spray, AARP, Volvo, Lockheed, and many others.
