The Video Journalist

Photo and print journalists must increasingly be fluent in multimedia storytelling and publishing if they are going to work and succeed in today's market. The ability to use the video camera and capture quality sound for broadcast is fast becoming a prerequisite for working in any journalism medium. The smaller and higher quality cameras make the video journalist more versatile and consequently more in demand. In this workshop, students develop journalistic ideas to research, scout, and prepare a short story which they will shoot and edit by week's end for presentation and critique by the class. Students leave with an introduction to the versatility required of a video journalist and a level of competence in recording and constructing non-fiction stories across print and video platforms.
