New DV Filmmaker

People from all walks of life are finding the joy of video and filmmaking. This hands-on workshop is for new filmmakers who want to create documentaries, dramatic scenes and short, personal films and videos. Students learn how to use the latest DV technology, including the Canon XLH-1 mini-DV camera and its on-board menus. The class covers cinematic language, shot design and sequences, continuity, pov, scene structure and eye-lines, and students learn how to set-up and light an interview, record sound and return with sufficient support material to tell a story in editing. There are lectures, screenings, discussions and demonstrations in the classroom and in the field. Students shoot a series of short exercises to learn the process. Then they research, write and shoot a personal project, which may be a documentary, music video or dramatic scene. There is an introduction to the post-production (editing) process using Apple's Final Cut Pro. Students leave with plenty of hands-on experience and are fully aware of the equipment and methods used in making films and videos with DV, and a clear direction to their future filmmaking.
