Basic Story Structure and Screenwriting (WS)

Mar 28 - Apr 3

Learn the basics of story structure, character development, plot, and format.

Massimo Bassano

The basic foundation for all forms of filmmaking is the story. Without a good screenplay, there is little chance of cinematic success. This is a one week workshop that will get each of the participants, with a story or idea for a feature film, started. The students learn the process necessary to develop their stories and shape their ideas into screenplays, by creating interesting characters, putting them in challenging and dramatic situations, and creating suspense and tension. They learn how to write an outline, build a three-act structure, find plot points to turn the drama and write dialog and action. Most of all, the students leave with an understanding of what turns a story into a screenplay that a producer will be willing to buy. By week's end, the students have learned how to pitch their stories, write treatments, construct key moments, and build their stories into finished film scripts.
