Laos: Land of a Million Elephants
Laos is an exotic destination and this trip will present numerous opportunities to photograph its many colorful ethnic tribes and World Heritage sites. Referred to as the Land of a Million Elephants, Laos is the least populated of all Indochinese countries, geographically remote & relatively undeveloped.
Our journey starts in the capital Vientiane nestled on the banks of the Mekong River, with its tree-lined boulevards, French colonial houses and old Buddhist temples. We then travel to Luang Nam Tha, situated in the far northwest corner know as the “Second Golden Triangle”. Here you will spend the next few days photographing the many ethnic hill tribes such as the Lenten, Black Thai, H’mong, Mien and Yao.
Our next destination is the unique eco-friendly Kamu Lodge, located on the left bank of the Mekong River. Surrounded by the lush tropical jungle each fixed Safari-like tent is powered by solar energy. In this remote setting, you can interact with the local Kamu tribe photographing their daily activities of planting rice, gold panning and net-cast fishing.
A scenic cruise along the Mekong River takes us to Pak Ou and the ancient Buddhist Tham Ting Caves, which house thousands of sacred statues. Our river journey ends at the ancient capital of Luang Prabang, a World Heritage Site. This laid back town with its gilded temples and saffron robed monks is a photographer’s paradise. In the early dawn, witness the monks in their morning meal procession. We end our journey with an elephant trek through the Laos jungle.
The workshop fee is $ 5,995.00 and includes shared accommodation, private touring, a private guide and regional transportation, including the flight between Vientiane and Luang Nam Tha, some meals, entrance fees to most sites and the elephant trek.
International air flights, airport taxes, visas, gratuities for our guides and drivers, personal expenses and some meals and photography fees to sites are NOT included. The single supplement charge is $1,500.00.
