Demystify the book-making process, from project ideas to self-publishing options.
Designer, artist, typesetter, writer, and bookbinder used to be specialized professions. However, contemporary digital technologies have made many of these jobs approachable for the individual. Through demonstrations, slideshows and hands-on lab time, students learn how to tackle these tasks using Adobe’s Creative Suite and basic bookbinding techniques. In addition to exploring layout and design concepts in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, students learn how to create signatures, Japanese side-sewn and accordion books. Through daily assignments, students spend the week bringing book concepts full circle from project ideas to self-publishing options.
