For more than 40 years, the Workshops have influenced thousands of people — many of them in life-changing ways. Some talk about the spectacular beauty of the environment, others praise the quality of the programs, the world-renowned faculty or the state-of-the-art equipment. Most often people reflect on the experience that happens when they get completely immersed in their art as part of a community that is passionate about creativity.

Participants in our programs learn by doing, by trying new things, by seeing what works and what doesn't.  By watching and learning from other participants.  And being inspired by the accomplished artists and professionals that come here to teach and to learn.

There is a buzz in the air when people come together to “talk story” under the tent over delicious meals.  Whether they are filmmakers or photographers, writers or book artists, everyone has a story to tell and a passion for learning the storytelling arts. The spirit of sharing that permeates the community is welcoming to people of all different ages, cultural backgrounds and experience. Participants come from all over the world to learn in the scenic environment of coastal Maine.

The week's end is capped by a traditional Maine lobster dinner complete with corn on the cob and baked potatoes (alternative choices are always available) each Friday evening. The campus community then usually gathers in the sound stage to celebrate the week's creativity. It is amazing to see the quality of what can be accomplished with such intense energy in just one week's time!

The Workshops offers a unique opportunity to learn in a beautiful remote environment and join a community of other passionate imagemakers and storytellers — all gathered to become better artists.

There is a "magic" that occurs every single week at the Workshops — we hope you will join us this year under the tent!
