ROCKPORT, Maine – Midcoast actors are featured in the Maine Media College student films to be screened Thursday, May 28 at the Strand Theatre in Rockland as part of the school’s 2009 graduation celebration.
The film screenings start off the evening, immediately followed by an exhibition of photographs at Asymmetrick Arts. This work is the culmination of 30 weeks of intensive, hands-on training in the college’s Professional Certificate Programs in Photography and Filmmaking. Students travel to Rockport each September from across the country and around the world to study their chosen media field in this unique program.
As in past years, the Midcoast community has had a great impact on the students’ experience during their academic year, particularly for the film students who receive support from many business and property owners with props and locations.
Another critical resource in the community are the many talented actors who volunteer their time to appear in these projects so critical to students’ training. This year, some of the actors who will be seen on the big screen at the Strand include: Scott Anthony Smith (Belfast), Jake Lowe (Camden), Ellen E. Whalley (Damariscotta), Kendall and Reijo Rantala (South Thomaston), Stephen and Aaron Jones (Hope), Kris and Peter Cristine (Damariscotta), Stefanie McAllister (Washington), and Ivan Zizek (Lincolnville).
Film screenings are from 5 – 6:30PM at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main Street, Rockland. The photography exhibition is from 6:30 – 8:30 at Asymmetrick Arts, 499 Main Street, Rockland. The show runs from May 20 – 28. Both events are free and open to the public. To contact Maine Media College, email info@mainemedia.edu, phone 207-236-8581, or visit www.mainemedia.edu.
