Maine Media Gallery’s 2nd Spectacular Season
ROCKPORT, Maine – A full season of spectacular photography exhibitions promises to enliven the Midcoast community as Maine Media Gallery ushers in its second season. Maine Media Workshops, operator of the gallery, proudly presents historical and innovative works from the American Society of Cinematographers, internationally renowned photographers, faculty members, former students, and graduating college students.
Launching the season on April 5 is Between the Lines, a solo exhibition by MFA student, Kim DePaul. Using collage and assemblage incorporating Kallitypes, tintype, inkjet and photo transfer, Kim explores a long-kept family secret.
Connections, an exhibition by four visual artists from varying backgrounds and localities across New England, opens May 3. Barbara Groom, Mary Alice Kolodner, Cindy Stephens and Nancy Weber enjoy a connection through their collaboration with mentor, David H. Wells, an award-winning innovator in multimedia and photography and instructor at Maine Media Workshops.
Opening May 23, Maine Media College’s Professional Certificate Photography students present the culmination of their 30 weeks of intensive work. A screening of the Filmmaking Professional Certificate students’ work takes place just down the street at the Union Hall Theatre on May 26.
June 1 the MM Gallery displays work by Yarka Vendrinska and Vendrinska scholarship winners. This exhibit is a tribute to the memory of Yarka, a burgeoning photographer whose life ended at the age of 32.
The month of July highlights the synchronicity between the Workshops and the filmmaking industry with the American Society of Cinematographers Photography Collection. Membership in the ASC is one of the highest honors bestowed upon a professional filmmaker; this exhibition features still images by ASC cinematographers, many of whom are Workshops instructors. This show runs from July 1 through the 27th.
We Are The Camera, a rotating show, finishes the month of July with a July 29 opening and continues throughout the summer. This exhibition extends the 1991 exploration begun when Eastman Kodak opened the Center for Creative Imaging in Camden.
An exhibition of Maine Media College Faculty work rounds out Maine Media Gallery’s second season. This show begins October 4 and runs through New Year’s Eve. Among the featured artists are: Charles Altschul, Charlotte Dixon, Jason Esposito, Elizabeth Greenberg, Howard Greenberg, Brenton Hamilton and Jan Rosenbaum.
Maine Media Workshops, enjoying its 38th year of educating photographers, filmmakers and multimedia artists, offers programs for students of all ages and of all skill levels. With more than 450 workshop offerings, a one-year Professional Certificate program and a low-residency MFA degree program, Maine Media Workshops and College has something for everyone!
The Maine Media Gallery is located on the ground floor of the historic Shepherd Building at 18 Central Street in Rockport Village. Union Hall Theatre is located at 2 Central Street in Rockport Village. New to the Gallery this year is Tim Whelan's Photographic Books. The Union Hall Theatre is just down the street from the Gallery at 18 Central Street in Rockport Village.
