Going Forward, Looking Back Opens at Maine Media Gallery
ROCKPORT, Maine
Maine Media Gallery celebrates the opening of the exhibition Going Forward, Looking Back: Practicing Historic Photographic Processes in the 21st Century with a public reception Friday, October 22 from 5 - 8 pm. This traveling exhibition features a selection of work from over 150 curated pieces by 24 contemporary artists including Maine Media instructors Tillman Crane, John Goodman, Brenton Hamilton, Sean Harris, Cig Harvey, and Christopher James.
Curated by Stephen Halpert, Going Forward, Looking Back features an extraordinary array of visual experiences dating from 1839 through the present. Photography expanded the world in the 19th century similar to the way the Internet has changed our world today. By freezing a moment in time on iron, glass, or paper people could travel across the world, relive historical events, and share memories with family and friends. MMW remains committed to preserving historic photographic processes and continues to be one of the few places in the world offering a full range of classes in these mesmerizing techniques.
Going Forward, Looking Back will be on exhibit at the Maine Media Gallery October 15 - November 19, Monday through Friday from 2-5 pm.
Sponsored by Bangor Savings bank, Maine. The magazine, and Maine Home + Design, this exhibition is free and open to the public. The Maine Media Gallery is on the first floor of the Shepherd Building, 18 Central Street, Rockport Village.
