ROCKPORT, Maine – A preview exhibition of fine photographs included in Maine Media Workshops upcoming benefit auction opens Tuesday, June 10 at the Workshops Gallery, Union Hall in Rockport Village, from 6:30 – 8PM.
In celebration of the Workshops 35th anniversary this year, forty of the school’s world renowned photography faculty have generously donated their work. The auction is the school’s first public fundraiser since achieving non-profit status in 2007.
“We’re all thrilled to be able to support MMW in this way,” says photographer Joyce Tenneson, who is vice president of the Workshops new Board of Directors and a Rockport summer resident. “The Workshops have been a part of the history of photography and film in this country, and its alumni and faculty are leaders in the global art community. Now that the school has become a non-profit, we are all trying to do our part to ensure its future!”
Among the photographers making gifts are artists who, like Tenneson, call Maine home, including Paul and John Paul Caponigro, Tilman Crane, George DeWolfe, Cig Harvey, and William Wegman. More friends of the school making gifts include industry luminaries Sally Mann, Maggie Taylor, and Jay Maisel. The work will be on display in the gallery through June 24.
The auction takes place live online with eBay on Tuesday, July 1. For more information on the auction, please visit www.theworkshops.com/auction. For information about Maine Media Workshops community events, call 877-577-7700, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or visit www.theworkshops.com.
