ROCKPORT, Maine – Maine Media Workshops announces the formation of a volunteer group to support the school’s activities and to extend its outreach into the Midcoast community. A first meeting for volunteers interested in participating is scheduled for Monday, September 28 at 3:30 PM under the Workshops dining tent at the 70 Camden Street campus in Rockport.
Volunteers may get involved in all areas of the school from student services to education, hospitality, and fundraising. “Ever since we became a nonprofit nearly three years ago, members of our community have expressed an interest in helping the school in any number of ways,” said Executive Director, Charles Altschul. “The formation of this group will provide a framework for that help.” Specific areas of immediate need include the oversight of the school’s extensive library of photographic and filmmaking materials, as well as planning for community events next summer.
“Most of all, we intend to have fun!” says Gwen Hughes, who is volunteering her time to serve as coordinator of this new group. Gwen says, “almost everyone has a little extra time available for reaping the rewarding experience of helping someone else.” Maine Media Workshops schedules dozens of events that are free and open to the public. The volunteer group will extend the reach of those programs into the community.
Now in its 36th year, Maine Media Workshops offers over 500 workshops for photographers, filmmakers, and media artists throughout the year. Programs are available for absolute beginners, serious amateurs, working professionals, and high school and college students. One-year Professional Certificate programs and a low-residency MFA degree program are also available through Maine Media College.
All are welcome to this introductory meeting. Refreshments will be served. For further information, contact Volunteer Coordinator Gwen Hughes at 407 496 0011or gwenlee@cfl.rr.com.
