Professional Certificate Programs

The Professional Certificate programs in photography, filmmaking and multimedia are intensive one-year courses of study designed to prepare students for graduate work or as a practical alternative to graduate school for those individuals seeking a career change or an opportunity to pursue personal creative endeavors.  Students in these programs develop serious bodies of work, receive rigorous technical training in their chosen media, and pursue relevant academic studies.

The certificate programs are composed of three 10-week terms held during the fall, winter and spring respectively. The programs culminate with a public exhibition and screening of student work.  Students receive a Professional Certificate upon completion of the required 48 credits in their selected program.

Master of Fine Arts Degree Program

Jon Edwards' thesis defenseThe MFA at Maine Media College is a low-residency program for photographers, filmmakers and media artists who have substantial backgrounds in these areas. Many candidates for the degree are already working in their chosen fields or are teaching and seeking necessary credentials to further their careers.  Students must complete 60 credits in their fields of concentration to earn the degree. Areas of concentration include photography, writing and directing, cinematography, film editing, and multimedia. With the assistance of their advisors and the MFA Committee, students tailor their programs to meet their individual educational goals and complete the degree requirements in three to five years.
