Tom Robotham is an East Coast cinematographer and member of the International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600, in the Director of Photography category.
Tom has lit and shot feature films, commercials, music videos, documentary and corporate projects. He has shot professionally in 35mm and S16 film, as well as HD24p and digital cinema formats. He has also written, produced, directed and edited commercials, PSA's and narrative shorts. His Director/DP work has won awards at festivals in the USA and Canada, and his commercial work has won Telly and Aegis Awards.
Before transitioning to film and video work in the 90's, Tom ran a small ad agency on Congress St. in downtown Boston. He still works as a freelance Creative Director for companies such as Canon, USA.
Tom is also a professional lighting designer and inventor of LED lighting. The Lowel Blender® Light is his technology for a variable color temperature, small and bright LED unit. This is now a featured product in Lowel's extensive line of location lighting.
Tom was graduated from Hampshire College with a degree in visual arts, and also studied sculpture at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. His sculptures have been purchased for private and corporate collections, and his large scale floating sculptures have been commissioned for installation in the Charles River in Cambridge, MA.
Tom has been teaching lighting, camera and filmmaking since 2004 and develops his own curriculum for classes and workshops.
