Lou Freeman
Lou Freeman was born into a loving family in Atlanta, GA. From an early age, she excelled in many of the creative arts and showed most impressive promise in photography and painting. By age 13, her school recognized her talent, and published her first photos. This encouraged and this served as the catalyst for her pursuit of a career in the visual arts. Lou has a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Georgia and has studied at the International Center of Photography in New York.
Her career in Photography spans 25+ years, ensuring this visionary’s collection of work is as diverse as it is strong. Her goal is to consistently produce powerful images that engage the audience. Lou’s expertise, professionalism, and life long commitment to the arts has kept her name and talent top of mind in the Advertising, Fashion, and Fine Home Interiors/Exteriors industries. As a result of her goals of excellence, Lou embraced a 12 year career with Playboy Magazine where she carved out her niche as the second woman to shoot for Playboy since 1975, reining after the famous Suze Randall. Soon Lou will release a book about her amazing life experiences there, and how this molded her thinking and lighting as a fashion and advertising photographer for many years to come.
Lou has also been a regular featured photographer in the fine fashion magazine Italian Harpers Bazaar. There, she had opportunity to shoot such amazing celebrities such as Jamie Foxx, Tiger Woods, Lisa Bonet, Jack Nicholas, Joe Montana, Evander Holyfield, TLC, and Jamie Rishar. Lou's true joy is coordinating all of the components of a photograph, in order to build perfect images for her clients. She assembles a team of experts, and empowers them to assist in creating almost any dream she can see in her mind’s eye. Typically, clients present basic requests, then Lou details the concepts and initiates photo shoots for music artists, individual portraits, celebrity editorials, fashion magazine editorials, and advertising campaigns. Her client retention is significant. For instance, Sara Lee/Hane's Brands partnered with Lou for an amazing 13 years straight, Each of these years included 14 consecutive packaging sequences for both Hane's Men’s and Women’s Underwear. Lou has been awarded two ADDYs and one OBIE for her advertising photography,. As her creativity evolved, she moved to New York to pursue her photography career; enjoyed much success there, and after 9/11 returned to Atlanta as her base. Lou’s passion for the visual arts has led her all over the globe. She’s photographed commercially in Los Angeles, Chicago, London, Milan, Barcelona to name a few; honing her skills as a fashion, advertising and celebrity photographer.
Today, Ms. Freeman continues to find inspiration in a broad range of corporate clients as well as fashion. She has become sought after for her expertise, professionalism, and lifelong pursuit of excellence. In her constant love to inspire others, she has also embraced the art of lecturing and training workshops for photographers. She has created many educational materials and is considering one on one training to those who would like to have education in the area of creativity, advertising, and fashion photography. She has taught at the Maui Photo Festival, Creative Circus, and Portfolio Center, and has been featured as a guest lecturer for the APA, PPA, and After Dark EDU.
