Derek Poore is a reporter at The Courier-Journal in Louisville, KY who believes strong visual elements are vital to modern journalism. He shoots and edits videos and images to create audio slideshows with his stories. Although time constraints at daily newspapers are a blessing and a curse, well-rounded story packages that incorporate writing, photography and video, can be turned out on schedule even in today's instant story newspaper environment. While Derek detests the phrase "more with less" that echoes throughout most newspapers that are cutting their staffs, Derek believes you can do more with more -- more imagination and more storytelling in unique ways that provides readers and viewers a better experience.
Derek is a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a degree in journalism. He has interned at several newspapers including the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Derek has served on the faculty at Western Kentucky University's Mountain Workshops and participated in the University of Kentucky's Picture Kentucky workshop series.
