David originally stumbled into letterpress printing as an undergraduate English major at the University of Iowa through a course taught by K.K. Merker at the University's Windhover Press. After receiving a Bachelors degree from Iowa and working as an assistant to Professor Merker, David attended the School of Printing Management & Sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology where he earned a Masters Degree in Graphic Arts Publishing. Since that time David has been privileged to work for both the Bixler Press & Letterfoundry and The Stinehour Press, two of this country's premier fine printing establishments, as well as to teach letterpress printing in the University of Iowa's Center for the Book. For seven years, from 2003 to 2010, David owned and operated The Applecart Press in Brunswick, Maine, which provided award-winning letterpress printing services to individual, institutional, and corporate customers throughout the United States. David now works for Sun Media Group in Lewiston, Maine.
