Alison Shaw
Alison Shaw is a fine art and editorial photographer who lives and works on Martha's Vineyard. For more than 25 years, the Island has provided the inspiration and subject matter for her color and black and white photography. In her latest project, the Artists' Studio Series, Alison is photographing artists' tools and reproducing the images on watercolor paper as large, limited-edition Giclee prints. Over 5000 of Alison's original fine art prints are in public and private collections worldwide. Her work appears regularly in Yankee Magazine, Martha's Vineyard Magazine and Cape Cod Life. Three books of Alison's photographs have been published - Vineyard Summer, Little Brown, 1994; Remembrance and Light, Images of Martha's Vineyard, Harvard Common Press 1984; and Until I Saw the Sea, Henry Holt 1995. Three new books featuring Alison's photographs will be published in 2005: Vineyard Harvest, Broadway Books, a cookbook with chef Tina Miller; Stone by Design, Gibbs Smith Publisher, featuring the work of island stonemason Lew French; and Finding Martha's Vineyard, Doubleday, by Jill Nelson, about the African American community on the island. Alison teaches photography workshops for Maine Photographic Workshops and Santa Fe Workshops. Alison and her partner, Sue Dawson, the designer of Alison's book and other publications, have a studio on Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs.
