Maine Media Workshops welcomes the community to the inaugural exhibition at the new Maine Media Gallery, located in the just-renovated Shepherd Building in Rockport Village. Kicking off the gallery’s 2010 season will be an exhibition featuring photographs by internationally renowned photojournalist Peter Turnley, on view June 7-30.
Turnley is a photojournalist known for documenting the human condition and world affairs. Over the past two decades, he has traveled to over ninety countries and covered nearly every major news event of international significance. His photographs have been featured on the cover of Newsweek more than forty times. In conjunction with the Maine Media Workshops, he leads workshops on street photography and the photo-essay in Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Istanbul, Seville, Calcutta, and Provence.
This exhibition marks the first time visitors will experience Maine Media’s brand-new gallery space in Rockport Village. Though the school’s main campus is currently located at 70 Camden Street, just up the hill from the harbor, the Village was the school’s original home when it was founded in 1973. The renovated Shepherd Building will also provide up to nine additional classrooms for educational programs.
The Shepherd Building and Maine Media Gallery are located at 18 Central Street in Rockport Village. Union Hall is just down the street at 2 Central Street.
