Connections

Four photographers of varying backgrounds and interests from across the Northeast have been immersed in a collaborative project for four years. The artists worked with the theme of "Connections", under the mentorship of photographer David H. Wells, with whom the four initially studied at Maine Media Workshops. The four photographers featured are Barbara Groom, Mary Alice Kolodner, Cindy A. Stephens and Nancy Weber.

Between the Lines

Maine Media College awards a Master of Fine Arts degree - the terminal degree in the field of art. This exhibition is the thesis project of the program's most recent graduate, Kim DePaul. Using collage, and assemblage incorporating kallitype, tintype, inkjet and photo transfer, Kim explores a long kept family secret. She writes: "Everyone has a secret... and it doesn't really matter what the secret is... only that the secret is being kept."

Faculty Presentations for the week of October 17th

Faculty Presentations for Monday Oct. 17th will take place at Union Hall Theater, 2 Central Street in Rockport Village at 7:30 pm. These events are free and open to the public.

Monday: Sylvia Plachy 

Sylvia Plachy was born in Budapest and lives in New York City. She has worked as an observer and photographer since receiving her BFA from Pratt Institute. Her weekly column in the Village Voice, Unguided Tour, 1990, which was a photo without a caption, evolved into her first book and won an ICP Infinity award. She is a Guggenheim Fellow, a CAP’s recipient, has won the Page One Award from Columbia School of Journalism for a photo essay on Three Mile Island and recently received a Lucie, awarded by the WIPI,  legacy photography in the Look3 festival in Charlottesville Virginia in 2009. In February 2010 she was given the prestigious Dr. Erich Salomon award for lifetime achievement in photojournalism.

While most people know about Maine Media through its extemsive summer workshop offerings, the school is active year- round and offers a Professional Certificate as well as a Master of Fine Arts degree. This exhibition features the creative work of the Maine Media College faculty. 

Exhibit will be held in The Maine Media Gallery from October 4th- New Year's Eve
